BASEBALL CUTOFF RESPONSIBILITIES WITH NO RUNNERS ON BASE

Welcome! On this page, we will discuss baseball cutoff responsibilities with no runners on base. Teaching your players how to hit the cutoff man is imperative and should be taught at a very young age. Knowing how to hit the cutoff man is one of the most basic fundamental skills baseball players should know. It is the job of a youth baseball coach to teach this fundamental. When kids get to their high school program, they should all be aware of this.

The baseball cutoff situations below will describe the basics when no runners are on base and the ball is hit to either the left fielder, center fielder or right fielder.

BALL HIT TO THE LEFT FIELDER

The baseball cutoff responsibilities with no runners on base and the ball gets hit to the left fielder are described in the graphic below. In this situation, the left fielder fields the ball (be sure to teach them the correct form for fielding a ball), throws to the cutoff man (shortstop) who then relays the ball to the 2nd baseman.

This is the basic way you will see most, if not all, baseball teams use.
