As a youth baseball coach for many years, I can say that getting your players to believe in focusing on having a quality at bat is one of the most important things you can do. We have kept track of quality at bats for a few years and the kids seem to like it a lot. They still know their batting averages (come on… we knew that would happen!), but they also love knowing their QAB’s.
After every game, as a team we go through all the at bats and talk about the really good ones. Joey bunted a guy over, Sam hit a line drive bomb, Alex had a 12 pitch at bat and struck out (still a great at bat!), etc. They see how to become a productive hitter when you do that.
Lastly, Steve Springer’s product really is a good deal. I pop the cd in my car a lot, especially during baseball season (now I actually have it on my iPod). It helps me get in the right mindset to teach my players. I have actually had some of my parents order the cd also, so they can help their kids.
I think it is great that he has a digital download now. Much easier than ordering and waiting for it to come in the mail.
Thanks for the article!
