Pitching In Baseball – Our Coaches Can Help Answer Your Questions

Many say that pitching in baseball is where games are won and lost. My belief is that a team wins and loses together, but pitching is pretty important.

A pitcher controls much of the game from the tempo standpoint. Other than the catcher, no player handles the baseball as much as a pitcher does. Every pitch and every pick off attempt begins with the pitcher. That is why so many people believe that a good team will always start with a good pitching staff.

Pitching in baseball is very important and young players need to learn the correct mechanics to deliver the ball consistently for strikes as they gradually learn the mechanics of throwing off-speed pitches and develop a stronger arm. Pitching velocity can be increased (to a certain extent) if the proper mechanics are being taught and used. Pitching control will definitely improve with proper pitching mechanics. Pitching Is Not Easy

Learning how to pitch a baseball correctly starts at a young age while learning how to throw a baseball. It is very important, at that time, that kids develop the proper arm action and throwing technique. As kids grow older, they will take what they have learned and continue to develop themselves into a pitcher.

It takes time, good coaching and a good attitude to develop into a quality pitcher at any level. Some kids are blessed with a very strong arm, but as they get older they can’t simply throw it by hitters. They need to learn control so they don’t walk as many hitters and they don’t throw it right down the middle of the plate where it is easy for hitters to make solid contact. All of this takes time and effort.

I Love Pitching In Baseball

As a fan, I love watching a good baseball pitcher. My favorite memory of a great pitching performance was when Jack Morris (MN Twins) won game 7 of the 1991 World Series. Blackjack (his nickname) pitched a 10-inning complete game to get a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. It was one of the most gutsy performances I have ever seen.

Tom Kelly wanted to pull Morris in the 8th or 9th inning, but Jack wasn’t going to let that happen. They argued for a bit on the mound and Jack won the argument. He went on to dominate the rest of the game and brought home the World Series trophy to Minneapolis.

That was one of the best moments in my baseball memory as a Twins fan. In fact, I just got goosebumps writing about it!

In summary, work hard at being a good baseball pitcher. You can control games and be a big part in your team’s victories. On the other hand, you could also be a big part in your team’s losses. It is up to you if you want to work hard and smart!
