OPPOSING TEAMS BATTING AVERAGE! DO YOU KNOW HOW?

*(Allowed Hits) div. by (Batters Faced-BB-HB-Sac. Hits-Sac. Flies-Catcher Interference)*Opposing teams batting average is a common statistic that is easy to understand and compute. This baseball statistic is a measurement to gauge the opposing team’s batting average when facing a particular pitcher. It helps the coach see what kind of success a pitcher has had against certain teams.

Below is an example:

Nolan has pitched against his rival team and had some success. He has only given up 5 hits. He has faced 72 batters and given up 2 walks, 0 hit batsmen, 3 sac hits, 1 sac fly, and 0 catcher’s interference. Here is the calculation:

(5 hits) divided by (72-2-0-3-1-0) = .075 OBA

That would be a remarkable number!
