Practice Routine For Catchers to Work On at Home or Practice
Catching skills and drills are often neglected at practice for other drills that cater to more general skills. Catchers need to get their work in and so below are some drills that can be worked on at home or at practice.
Sign to Stance
Give a sign and get into your receiving stance
Barehanded framing
Flip the player baseballs underhand and let them frame the ball barehanded concentrating on a quiet hand and proper set up
Catch, transfer and separate
Practice catching the ball and transferring it from your mitt to the throwing position
No hands blocking
Player practices blocking baseballs or tennis balls with hands behind back.
Blocking balls in the dirt
Player practices blocking balls center right and left
Plays at the plate
Practice receiving the ball for a force play with the throw to first and positioning yourself for a tag play
