BATTING AVERAGES ARE FOR THE “AVERAGE” TEAM

For our program (JM Fastpitch), we preach the importance of “quality” at bats, not batting average. Averages are nice for publicity, recruitment, other coaches and parents. Not a “Team” number for us.

We have a chart in our dugout that records quality at bats: Getting a hit, Get a walk, Get on base through other means, Move a runner, Sacrificed Fly or bunt, Getting an RBI, See at least 8 pitches in an at bat without striking out.
Our goal is to get at least 10-15 points per game. If we do these, we almost always come out winning.
