MARTY SCHUPAK’S TOSS DRILL

A great way to teach catchers to overcome any fear of being hit with the baseball is the “No Hands “ blocking drill. The catcher will clasp both hands together behind him.

The coach will toss the balls in and the catcher must get into the blocking position. Proper technique is reinforced such as the chin pressed up on his chest. This technique drill again becomes a great conditioning drill. It is important for coaches at all levels of play to have numerous drills so the players do not get bored. In the no hands drill, the coach can use regular hard balls. With the younger players, tennis or soft covered balls are okay.
