My son plays high school baseball in Alabama. Is he going to be required to use a new BBCOR certified bat? If so, are there bats that you would recommend?
I also have another son that plays youth baseball for a local league. Do the bbcor regulations follow the youth leagues?
Kind of confusing and want to make sure I don’t make an expensive mistake.
COACH HENZE’S ANSWER
Thanks for the question Eric!
Obviously, this has been a hot topic as of late. I will try to be as clear as possible with my answer…
HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE
All high school and college teams are now required to use a bbcor certified bat. Collegiate teams made this change last year (2011). 2012 will be the first year that high school teams are required to follow the new bbcor regulation.
Youth leagues are a little different. Not all youth leagues and/or levels are going to the new bbcor rules. My only recommendation would be to contact your local leagues board of directors to find out. The league web site may have some additional information for you.
WHERE TO BUY YOUR BBCOR CERTIFIED BAT?
That is a good question. I think you have a better chance at finding a sale or discount online, so I recommend a couple different online baseball stores. I have purchased baseball equipment from both of these places and they are great to work with. Shipping is fast for both also, based on my experiences. These places are:
- Baseball Express – The Baseball Superstore – Shop Now
- Baseball Rampage. 2012 Model Baseball Bats are here!
If you are reading this post and have already purchased your new BBCOR Certified Bat, share a comment about the bat you purchased and what you think of it. Would you recommend it?
