DOES MY BASEBALL BAT MEET BAT REGULATIONS BY BOTH LEAGUES I PLAY IN?

by Michael

Hello, I currently play Junior high baseball as well as club ball outside of school ball. my question is my new bat is -5 with the new USSSA stamp 1.15 BPF, at a school game recently the umpire said I can not use my bat. The coach said yes, umpire no, who is right ? The game was a mixture of 7th and 8th graders, all junior high. If you send me a response my next game is tuesday . Thank you maybe something i could print as well.

COACH HENZE’S ANSWER

Thanks for the baseball bat question Michael!

It really depends on the rules of your two leagues… There is not just one universal rule for every league to follow. Currently, The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has adopted the new BBCOR Regulation. That doesn’t mean that all youth leagues have followed suit. It is very important that you check into the bat rules for every league you play in.

My guess is that your junior high team uses high school rules, which means you need a bbcor certified bat that has a -3 ratio. I am guessing your club team maybe allows your -5 bat. Again, these are guesses and you will need to look into these rules on your own.

I am sorry that you had this issue, but hopefully things are clear for you by now. Thanks again for the question. Come back and ask any question when they happen. I enjoy helping my visitors!

Have a great day!
