The balancing act pitching drill is a very simple drill that forces pitchers to develop a sense of balance during the kick. Pitchers should move through their routine and stop when they get to the kick, holding that position for five seconds.

If players find that they are unable to hold the position, they will also be unstable during the stride and release. The following tips can help pitchers find and maintain balance:

  • Tightening the abdominal muscles
  • Ensuring that the shoulders are in line
  • Bending the supporting leg
  • Ensuring the hips are in line; the hip on the kicked leg should not be higher than the supporting hip
